Residential Housing Incentives

The Town of Moosomin was approved for $992,000 in funding from the Federal Government's Housing Accelerator Fund in February of 2024 to build more homes and apartments in Moosomin. Check below for details on the town's initiatives as well as some frequently asked questions. For more information on the program, contact Casey McCormac at moosominedo@sasktel.net.

Housing Incentive Program
  • $30,000 for the first new unit, plus $8,000 per additional unit for multi-unit housing on the same property. "On the same property" is to be determined by the tax assessment (if the building/buildings all share the same address and tax assessment they are "on the same property". If multiple buildings are present and they sit on independent subdivided lots with independent addresses and tax assessments, they are not on the same property).

  • This includes single family homes, new RTMs, new modular homes, new mobile homes, tiny homes, apartments, condos, and townhomes. Garage suites, basement suites, and backyard suites qualify for the $8,000 additional unit incentive.

NOTE: All of the above must first obtain a "Development Permit" and a "Building Permit" from the Municipal Office.

What is required for a basement suite to qualify under this program?
  • In order for a basement suite to qualify, it must be a legal basement suite and a permit will need to be obtained from the Town of Moosomin Office.

  • Legal basement suites qualify for an $8,000 grant from the Town of Moosomin.

  • Please see here for legal suite qualifications.

Commercial Incentive

The Town of Moosomin is offering tax incentives for new commercial construction.

Under the policy, new commercial building construction, and additions to commercial buildings with a building permit value of $150,000 or more, will have all property taxes on the value of the new building or the addition cancelled for the first year the building is complete.

The proposal for the tax incentive came from the town’s economic development committee. The committee is chaired by Murray Gray and Herb Doll. Having an incentive available for commercial development is a way to help offset the cost of construction that a new business is faced with by not having to pay property tax in their first full year of operation.
